Sussex Branch Activities

Monthly Rambles are held between April and October for Branch members and invited guest.

Matinée Club - this venture enables our members and their friends to buy heavily discounted tickets for West End shows in London (and occasionally shows in provincial theatres in our area).   We are able to get big reductions in ticket prices, although usually at quite short notice. You will also receive details of visits to other places of interest.

Members of other BTPF Branches are invited to join our mailing list (either email or postal).  A small contribution to help with postage costs would be appreciated - a book of 6 second class stamps per annum is suggested.

To join our mailing list: please click here to contact our Social Organiser, Claire Wickes and join the mailing list.

Recent events:  we have attended performances of Buddy at the Duchess Theatre, The Sound of Music at the London Palladium, The Lion King at the Lyceum Theatre, Sister Act at the London Palladium and Hairspray at the Shaftesbury Theatre - we have also visited Shakespeare's Globe Theatre.

Forthcoming events:

Thurs 15 April 2010 - a visit to Wimbledon Centre Court and Lawn Tennis Museum - click here for details

Chichester Festival - May/June 2010.  Tickets available for Saturday matinées of "Yes, Prime Minister" and "42nd Street".

Items marked * are restricted to Sussex Branch members, who may invite only one guest (who might be a husband or wife)

Visit to Wimbledon Centre Court and Lawn Tennis Museum

A chance to visit the All England Club at Wimbledon, home of the Wimbledon Tennis Championships which take place every June/July.

Our visit includes a formal “walk round” tour, led by a qualified Blue Badge Guide, of the buildings and tennis courts that comprise the All England Club, and then a visit to the Museum.

The museum contains many pieces of equipment and clothing from the great champions, the glittering Championship trophies, a cinema with film and video footage of great matches, and lots more.

The tour takes you to Centre Court and Number One Court, the press interview room, the picnic terraces (that some now call Murray Mount, but used to be Henman Hill!) and behind the scenes that normally only the players would see.

Please note: the museum is fully accessible and is open to those in wheelchairs or walking with sticks, whereas the tour involves a lot of steps.

The nearest tube station is Southfields (District Line) which is a 15 minute walk away, or a short ride on the number 493 bus. Unfortunately there is no public parking at the grounds at the moment, due to ongoing building work, so please use public transport.

Tickets for this visit are available from Claire Wickes at the all-inclusive price of £12.25 for Seniors, £14.00 for Adults and £10.75 for children. Ticket prices include admission to the Museum and a guided tour of the courts and buildings at the All England Club, (but no travel). Please enclose a decent-sized SAE for your joining instructions and tickets, and send together with your cheque to Claire Wickes (contact details available to members), by 28th February 2010. Please make your cheque payable to: "Old Southeronians Association – Sussex Branch"

Matinée Club - Chichester Festival - Yes, Prime Minister

Chichester Festival Theatre: I am holding 30 tickets at £28.90 each for the 14:00 hours matinée performance of this anniversary production of the classic TV series Yes, Prime Minister.

The original writers have been reunited and Prime Minister Jim Hacker, his Cabinet Secretary Sir Humphrey Appleby and his Principal Private Secretary Bernard Woolley are all back, in a brand new play. The world, of course, has turned meanwhile. Spin has become an art form and the BlackBerry is the must-have accessory. Dossiers have been 'sexed up', the 'special relationship' put to the test and countless MPs have stood down to 'spend more time with their families'. Casting includes many familiar faces from the small screen.

Tickets will be allocated on a first come, first served basis. If you have not visited Chichester Festival Theatre before, please ask me for a free map of how to get there by car or on foot from the station.

All bookings and payments (cheques payable to "Old Southeronians Association – Sussex Branch") to Claire Wickes by Monday 15th March please, (address details supplied to Matinée Club Members).

If booking for both Yes Prime Minister and 42nd Street (see below Sat 26th June) you are welcome to combine into one cheque if you prefer.

Matinée Club - Chichester Festival - 42nd Street

Chichester Festival Theatre:  I have 40 tickets at £27.75 each for the 14:00 hours matinée of 42nd Street

A celebration of the stuff that dreams are made of, 42nd Street is the timeless, inspiring story of small-town girl Peggy Sawyer’s meteoric rise from the anonymity of the chorus line to the spotlight of the Broadway stage. Toe-tap and foot-stomp to Lullaby Of Broadway, We’re In The Money, Keep Young And Beautiful, I Only Have Eyes For You and, of course, the spectacular title number, 42nd Street

Tickets will be allocated on a first come, first served basis. If you have not visited Chichester Festival Theatre before, please ask me for a free map of how to get there by car or on foot from the station.
